Sleep deprivation after having a baby is a real thing for parents. The massive disruption to your regular schedule often means that if you are getting sleep that it is not of the highest quality. But the lack of sleep is not all drudgery because it often results in some amusing stories as documented by Buzzfeed and BabyCenter. So in honor of parents everywhere, I’ve decided to share some of my favorite funny stories from when my husband and I were new parents.

One Key to Unlock Them All

My husband went back to work fairly early after we became new parents because we had a good bit of help from family and we wanted to save his vacation time for when everyone left. Well, we weren’t getting much sleep at the time, so he was mostly going through the days like a zombie. One day when he got home from work he was so out of it that he spent several minutes trying to unlock the front door using the button on his car key and getting frustrated that it wasn’t working. I didn’t realize he was out there or I would have helped him out, but we had a good laugh about it later.

Did I Do That?

Shortly after our daughter started getting into a schedule during the day, my husband and I decided we would try to tackle some light housework and chores. There was a hamper full of clothes in our room, so I started folding clothes and putting them away. When my husband came into the bedroom, he had a confused look on his face and politely asked me if I had put away the clothes in the hamper. I told him, “yes,” and he began to laugh. I soon joined him in laughter as I quickly realized that I had just folded and put away our dirty laundry.

I Forgot What I Was Doing

One of our favorite stories from being sleep deprived new parents occurred one evening shortly after we came home from the hospital. It was the middle of the night, and I had asked my husband to grab me a swaddle blanket from the nursery. Our house is not that big so after several minutes of waiting I got up to try to figure out what was going on and I found him passed out on the couch in the living room. It’s something we still laugh about whenever it comes up.
