Believe it or not, Grandparents Day is less than a week away. That’s right, Sunday, September 10 is the day to honor and recognize our grandparents for the incredible contributions they make to our lives. For many new parents, the holiday may have snuck up on them because of the way days tend to blur together with a newborn at home. Never fear, we have some tips for how to create a memorable first Grandparents Day below.

Face Time

Whether in person, over the internet, or using a smart device, make sure that your parents have an opportunity to see their grandbaby on their first Grandparents Day. Depending on the age of your child and the distance to grandma and grandpas, it may not be feasible for you to travel to see them. If they can come up and you are physically and mentally prepared for company, you can invite them to come up and help with the baby. Once they have arrived, you can do some things to celebrate them.

Making Memories

You may choose to have a party for their first Grandparents Day, but that is not the only way to make memories. Having an outing and taking plenty of pictures with grandma, grandpa, and baby can create some powerful and lasting memories for grandparents. You might also choose to take on a small project or toy construction for their grandbaby so they can see the joy it brings and be reminded of the special day each time they see it. One of the key ingredients to making memories is spending time together, so whatever you choose to do, make sure you are all together.

Parting Gifts

Another excellent way to make an amazing first Grandparents Day is to have a little something special for grandma and grandpa. You may be thinking that there are a ton of options for items to give them and you are right. A gift doesn’t have to be expensive (although it certainly can be) but having something to show off to their friends and other family members will definitely make an impression. Consider a piece of jewelry with your child’s name inscribed, a picture of them together in a stylized frame, or even some hand/feet prints that they can hang on their fridge. The point is that they will love anything to do with their grandbaby so let your imagination run wild.
