The thought of going out in public with your newborn for the first time may seem completely overwhelming to you. Maybe it feels scary and fills you with anxiety, or maybe you are so stir crazy, you can’t wait to get out and about. In today’s blog, I am going to give you 5 of our favorite tips for going out with your newborn for the first time.
- Be prepared
Think about what you want to put into your diaper bag. Generally speaking, if it is a shorter outing, you don’t need too much stuff. An extra outfit, a few diapers and travel wipes, a small hand sanitizer, a bottle, a few extra pacis, and a blanket will pretty much cover you in any major situation. - Have a plan
While you don’t have to have a strict agenda, it’s a good idea to have a loose idea of what you want to do on your first big day out. If you want to go to shopping, research if there are any nursing rooms available. If you want to take stroll through Georgetown, check the weather. - Allow a little extra time to get out the door
By now, you’ve probably already found that it can be tough to get to those pediatrician appointments on time. If you’re meeting someone at a predetermined time, start getting ready extra early. After all, you are no longer just getting yourself ready, but another little one who may be napping or need to eat! - Don’t overthink it
Even though you may be feeling completely overwhelmed, don’t over think it! Once you get out and about you’ll forget about how nervous you were just 3 hours ago. Once you have your diaper bag and plan ready to go, don’t continue to think about how nervous you may be. - Have fun!
It’s baby’s first trip out! Enjoy yourself, enjoy your baby, and soak in the time outside of the house. Don’t forget to take a few pictures so you can look back with your little one when they get older!
